When Time Speaks, Listen: Preparing for What’s Ahead

family gathering at a meal outside with the head of the table being an older gentelman with a solum look on his face.

As summer draws to a close, the days seem to have flown by, leaving a rush to connect with loved ones. I find myself cramming these last two weeks with people I longed to see, but busy schedules made it difficult to coordinate. Time has a mysterious way of slipping by. We hold onto memories of people as they once were, only to realize one day that they’ve aged 20 years overnight.

You reminisce about that unforgettable potato salad that instantly transports you back to childhood. But this time, it’s different—or maybe it’s not even there. When you ask, they say they were too tired to make it, which isn’t like them. They’ve always taken pride in making others happy through their cooking. Now, you notice they seem smaller when you hug them, struggle to stand, or need support to move around. These subtle changes are easy to overlook but signal something that needs attention.

Ignoring these signs doesn’t make them disappear. We often convince ourselves that everything is fine, even when, deep down, we know it’s not. Denial can be a tricky thing, feeding our anxiety rather than alleviating it.

Have you ever gone through something that genuinely scared you, only to doubt your experience afterward? It’s as if you can’t trust what you saw or felt, thinking you might have overreacted. Self-doubt and a lack of confidence can make it even harder to trust your instincts. But leaving these feelings unaddressed can lead to larger, unavoidable challenges.

It’s important to talk about what your gut is telling you. Share your concerns with a friend or family member. These conversations, born out of love, can help you plan ahead and ease your worries about the future. We help many families navigate these complexities. If you need guidance, please give us a call. We’re here to serve you. You don’t need to tackle this journey alone.
